Lucky Day

'Lucky Day' 18x24" graphite on paper;  Kathleen Faulkner

Sometimes,
when I wish I had done things differently,
I think of the Chinese tale of the father and son:

The son had many misfortunes
that turned out to be

I like my yard

'Yard Work' 23x37" graphite on paper;  Kathleen Faulkner

We have been hoping for change.

We hoped the COVID would alter our way of seeing/being.

I don't know if if is permanent, but,
I find a new sense of appreciation for small things.

Variants

'Variant' 22x15" graphite;  Kathleen Faulkner

I have a new appreciation for my own small spot in the world.
I see things now that, before, were invisible

only because I didn't look.

speaking of March

'Vignette II, 30x22" pencil drawing;
Kathleen Faulkner

Here we go.
Back in lockdown again.

I have explored my yard like never before
this year.
I'm drawing what I see
in my tiny bubble.

It has been a tough year.

Because of COVID, I am unable to be with my friends
so I decided to draw them.

Seeing them looking back at me gives me comfort
and knowing they are all wearing masks out in that cold, cruel world
gives me hope that I will see them again,
in person,
sometime in the future.

remembrances

We lived in apartments in the city.
I learned to be quiet at a very early age
so as not to disturb the neighbors.
All around me was the noise of the city.
It was background.

As a small child
with family from the deep South
I heard stories
that made me afraid.
Later I learned about diversity
It opened up my eyes
and made the world
a more interesting place.

just a thought

'Flora' necklace 18-22" long  sterling silver
paper, ink, graphite, watercolor, mica;
Kathleen Faulkner

It is the Season.

Today is 'Black Friday'.
People are rushing in hoards to the big box stores.

There is an alternative:
Support your local artists, craftsmen, galleries,
independent book stores and shops.
Consider spending locally and let's keep the money in our communities.

Here's wishing you a stress free and joyous Holiday Season!
Cheers!

weather or not

'Heavy Weather' 8x8" oil and soft pastel, graphite;
Kathleen Faulkner

The storm approaches.

Weather here is changing.  Lately it's downpour or sunshine,  not much in between.
The days of cold, damp and drizzle are fading and it's feeling a lot like northern California.

At least we still have water.

a helping hand

'Safety First' 20" milagro necklace, sterling silver,
paper, gouache, ink, graphite, mica; Kathleen Faulkner

We never know what lies ahead.
Some say that we create our own reality.

Whatever is true, it can't hurt to have a helping hand.
